Possibly a little not politically correct

This kicked in a memory that made a lasting impression on me - from the 1950s and Black and White TV.

It concerned the last Patent Medication in the tradition of the traveling medicine show and Snake Oil.  The Hadacol folks claimed it could cure a lot of things.   It was deemed by the FDA to have no curative power.  It contained about 12% alcohol along with some vitamins and minerals.  It was popular with a lot of older folks, particularly in dry counties...

What I recall was when asked by Congressional questioners "What was Hadacol good for?"  the maker replied "About 3 Million Dollars."

At about 22-24 proof,  It has more alcohol than most sweetened dessert wines.   I imagine some people did feel better after drinking it.  We had a bottle in the medicine cabinet.  The maker was an elected politician of course.  Wikipedia has the story.

One might take a look at the medicinal properties of Medical Marijuana.  Apparently, most of the medicinal part has been lessened in favor of more of the stuff that makes one feel good.   Like Hadacol.   It is also interesting to see how many licenses were granted in Nevada to those linked to politicians (it is still available).

I am always amazed at how many areas of the health/medical world our politicians have some connection.  Some even have their fingers in the till. I have even heard a rumor that some pharmaceutical companies pay doctors to prescribe their medications.  They do take them to nice dinners now and then.  I have been to a couple.
